Placing an emphasis on the accessibility of varied HDB flats, the third Build-to-Order (BTO) exercise of the year saw the launch of 4993 flats across seven projects in six estates, including two projects in Bukit Merah part of the prime location public housing (PLH) model.
The conditions pertaining to the sale and lease of the projects in Bukit Merah— Alexandra Vale and Havelock Hillside— are, as with projects under the PLH model, comparatively stringent for public housing.
While a greater subsidy would be provided to ensure the affordability of the PLH flats, homeowners will also have to return a sum commensurate with the subsidy— in the case of Alexandra Vale and Havelock Hillside, 6% of the resale price or valuation— should they choose to, after the end of the 10-year minimum occupation period, sell the unit.
One of Alexandra Vale’s two residential blocks includes two-rom rental flats, allowing a more inclusive residential space.
Also launched in the August 2022 BTO exercise are two-room flexi flats across mature and non-mature towns including Ang Mo Kio, Choa Chu Kang, Jurong, and Woodlands. This round of BTO sales also allows for an increased proportion of flats allocated to first-timer applicants— both families and singles.
