Uncertain about the types of stamp duties you’d need to pay? With phishing emails having snaked into the real estate market, you’d want to stay on the lookout.

Media outlets reported late June that tenants were told to pay a sum for the forged additional buyer’s stamp duty (ABSD) certification when in fact, ABSD is not applicable for lease agreements.

What you can do:

  1. Ignore the emails.

    1. Do not provide your personal, credit card, or bank account information.

    2. Do not carry out instructions stated in the email.

  2. Verify the authenticity of the stamp certificate on IRAS’ website.

  3. If you have responded to the scam, it is advisable to file a police report.
