Public housing estates may be recategorised, as part of the Ministry of National Development’s (NMD) review.

With the blurring of boundaries between what would traditionally be termed “mature” HDB housing estates and non-mature ones, new modes of classification may be more fitting. This could potentially help to address concerns of young adults who have had repeatedly unsuccessful bidding attempts for their BTO flats.

Housing experts suggest that, if not the addition of a third ‘semi-mature’ estates, the estates’ geographic location— or perhaps their proximity to flats built under the Prime Location Public Housing (PLH) model— may be the basis for the reclassification of public housing.
