Housing is very much tied to the formation of a nuclear family in Singapore, namely a married couple and children. With Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announcing during the National Day Rally, that the country’s conception of family and marriage remains unchanged, the process of getting a house would continue to be a challenging one for many.
However, you don’t have to give up on your dream of owning your very own home! Aside from private properties, which may not be the most financially viable option, there are different housing types you could look into.
1. Build-to-order (BTO) flats
Limited to non-mature estates
Excluding those launched under the Prime Location Public Housing (PLH) model
Income ceiling of $7000 for 2-room flexi flats
Application through the Singapore Citizen Single Scheme (individual applicant) or the Joint Singles Scheme (2 to 4 co-applicants)
An additional $15000 is payable on top of the listed BTO pricing, for singles buying the flat under the Singapore Citizen Single Scheme (SCSS)
2. HDB resale flats
All flat types, apart from 3Gen flats
No income ceiling for purchase of flat
Grants available include the Proximity Housing Grant (Singles), Enhanced CPF Housing Grant (Singles) and the CPF Housing Grant for Resale Flats (Singles)
3. New executive condominiums (ECs)
Only accessible through the Joint Singles Scheme
Household income ceiling of $16000
